From 16 to 18 June, the 38th edition of the prestigious EV conference, EVS38, was held in Gothenburg, Sweden. From CHAdeMO, Tomoko Blech from the European Secretariat presented on the topic ‘Towards higher charging reliability: CHAdeMO Interoperability Test Centre project,’ discussing the CHAdeMO Test Centre (CITC) initiative.

During her presentation, Tomoko highlighted that ‘in major markets in Europe and the United States, one out of every four to five charging attempts fails, which is a significant barrier to accelerating EV adoption.’ She also noted that even in the relatively successful CHAdeMO system, errors are increasing as the number of vehicle and charger models grow.

She then detailed the new initiatives of the CHAdeMO Association, including the CITC project. Key features of the CITC include the creation of a vehicle-side checklist, the installation of 13 charging stations with various CHAdeMO versions and output levels for a year and a half of testing, and the public disclosure of results on a website as a whitelist. However, she also pointed out the lack of a systematic mechanism to evaluate results and improve the system, and proposed measures to enhance the current approach.
