CHAdeMO Association to issue a charging protocol for two-wheelers

On 22 February, the Association has released a protocol for motorcycles and small vehicles to its Regular Members.

The CHAdeMO protocol for electric two-wheelers (e-PTW) is the extension of its standard specification, optimised for DC charging of small capacity, providing approximately up to 10kW (output voltage 120V, max current 100A). Based on the already published IEC 61851-25 standard, the CHAdeMO Protocol describes detailed technical specifications, which are not fully illustrated in the international standard. The size of the connector is smaller than the well-known CHAdeMO 50kW connectors.

The Protocol includes six documents as listed below:

  • Specification document of quick charging station for electric powered two-wheelers
  • Specs document for the certification test of quick charging stations for electric powered two-wheelers
  • Protocol check sheet of chargers for electric powered two-wheelers
  • Performance confirmation document of charging connectors for electric powered two-wheelers
  • Performance confirmation document of vehicle inlets for electric powered two-wheelers
  • Specification confirmation document of electric powered two-wheelers

These are available in both English and Japanese and the Association’s Regular Members can download them from the Member Page.

CHAdeMO Association develops charging standards for vehicles of all sizes including e-bikes, two-wheelers and the next generation ultra-high-power “ChaoJi” developed within the framework of Japan-China collaboration.
