- CHAdeMO Association welcomes the joint statement on collaboration released by the ministries of German and Japanese governments on 20 March (the Hannover Declaration), which includes next-generation electric car charging system
- CHAdeMO has already been an active participant in the two countries’ Joint Technical Working Group for Next Generation EV Charging Systems for the past few years, and shall continue its strong contribution in this fruitful exchange and collaboration, for the convenience of EV and EV charging infrastructure users today and tomorrow
- One form of such collaboration has been the multi-standard chargers. As a next step, CHAdeMO shall demonstrate high power charging, which is also one of the results from the Joint Technical Working Group sessions between the two countries to date
The Hannover Declaration, signed by Minister ZYPRIES of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) of the Federal Republic of Germany and by Minister SEKO of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan on 19 March, was released in the presence of Chancellor MERKEL and Prime Minister ABE on 20 March in Hannover.
This Declaration encompasses a broad range of collaboration between these two countries, on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industries 4.0, which this year was amended to extend its scope to the Automotive Industry. Notably, automotive industries policy sessions shall be initiated on the topics described in the Memorandum of Cooperation (to be issued shortly) regarding the policy aspects of electric mobility, other alternative powertrains, and automated and connected vehicle. Key points of the MoC are described on the METI website – in Japanese only for the moment.
More specifically, the two countries shall exchange best practices, promote and support cooperation between companies, research institutes and platforms in these fields, discuss recommendations for improving such cooperation, and explore common interests and joint contributions to bilateral / international standardisation for the next generation electric car charging system.
CHAdeMO Association welcomes the Hannover Declaration, and considers this as a clear recognition of the on-going effort and the results from the collaboration between these two countries in the framework of Joint Technical Working Group for Next Generation EV Charging Systems.
Both Germany and Japan are leading nations in terms of the technology and deployment of the electric vehicle as well as the charging infrastructure domains. Further collaboration between these two countries will not only benefit the relevant industries in these two nations but also the users of EVs and charging infrastructure today and tomorrow on a global scale.
We strongly believe that these two countries should work together to achieve the future generation of EV charging system, all the while providing the users of today’s EVs and charging infrastructure full compatibility with the upcoming system. In this regard, we believe that it is of utmost importance that the stakeholders in these two countries share the same objectives, with full respect for each other, and discuss the future system from the point of view of the EV users.
CHAdeMO Association has always been an active participant in the Japan-German Joint Technical Working Group for Next Generation EV Charging Systems, that has been on-going in the past few years, and will continue its contribution under the new framework of the Hannover Declaration.
CHAdeMO has always valued collaboration with other stakeholders. One clear example is the initiative for multi-standard fast chargers that have become the de facto standard today. As another example, CHAdeMO will be demonstrating the high-power charging connection in the coming few weeks, which was also a fruit of the continuous discussion with the German stakeholders.
